National Bibliographies: past, present and future — the Korean experience

This paper presents the history and the current situation in Korea in terms of the national bibliography, national union catalog, legal deposit and other bibliographic control. The National Library of Korea has been playing key roles in the provision of complete bibliographic records of the available publications in Korea. The national bibliographies are becoming more diversified in terms of including different types of material. The National Library of Korea plans special projects for promoting the legal deposit system and preparing to revise its legislation to include more types of material, in particular electronic publications, as well as public relations. Within the next few years, a revised legal deposit act will comprise all forms of published materials and will be fully in agreement with the International Conference on National Bibliographic Services (ICNBS) recommendations.
